Now it’s time use the inversions we learned in previous lessons in some real chord progressions that would occur in any standard composition. This sheet features a ii-V-I (two-five-one) progression in the key of C, cycling through all possible inversions.
The equivalent major sixth chord voicing is shown next to each major seventh voicing so that the two types can be learned and recalled as related pairs, as they are often interchangeable.
The end of the exercise features a chromatic passage in the melody line, harmonized by diminished seventh chords as a way to demonstrate one way to use them.
